SATURDAY

what a crazy night for the sizzlin 7 team @ THR! we had new tires on the car, but we did not try to make practice. pretty useless to go practice 10 minutes on a slick track and sit idle for 5-6 hours doing nothing in the heat. we passed on that and got there later again.
heat race was ok, I ran tough for a few laps and just fell into line to get the tires broke, found out we would be starting 5th in the main.
#7 broke out well, we were sitting pretty in the top 5 then it all got hazy, i thought i was about to pop a motor but all levels were good, the steering was a bitch though, i knew it was power steering. i knew i was smoking but i've seen other cars in my class smoke like that without causing a caution so i stayed out, apparently THIS TIME it was a problem cause i drew a yellow, i hit the pits and came back. its been a long time since i raced without power steering, it was actually pretty fun, i wrestled it to 8th and drew the short straw to go to tech, i'm sure the smoke helped! well....... my car was just a little low, which later i found out i had a left front tire going flat, had that not been the case we would have passed. BUT (there's always one), the #7 camaro was also 40 pounds light. not sure how, we were 60 pounds light a month ago and we put 60 plus pounds in the car, I hate geometry!
it was a good run though, and what a great following we are developing, many supporters out there it seems, and the kids love our car, that makes it all fun for me. one dude in particular, Danny, he's followed me a long time, even when i really sucked, he came over to take some pictures with me and the car, he watched the the low tire go flat! it's funny, i was dissappointed with the results, but after Danny and all the other folks came to see us, it really became irrelevant that we failed tech........... its the other details off the track that really make this rewarding to me, i remember being young and seeing Glen Shwaube, Steve Klestinec then later Terry Brooks & Donnie Moore, these guys made time for me and let me sit in their cars and told about their nights. i always vowed if i ever got to race, i would do that if anyone came around, and they do, so i welcome anyone who wants to see our car or ask me questions, it's good for kids, i'd rather see them checking out super stocks than raisin' hell downtown.
we've got till 8/30 to make our car right, i've told Tracy it;s taco time, ironic, i lost about 60 pounds, i think we'll find another way to get that car some weight!
have a good week everyone, keep checking in!!!

live smart,
Rodney7
